The question is often asked whether "Ready Readers" are harmful or not. Reading glasses work because they magnify the text or object you are looking at through a process called linear magnification. This means that the spectacle lens only magnifies the image, no correction takes place. Most people have some form of corrective error and if this error is not incorporated in the spectacle prescription, the linear magnification effect would magnify the uncorrected error, causing eyestrain or even accelerated deterioration.
